Democrats meet Thursday at center

The James Island/Folly Beach Democrats will meet Thursday at the Sol Legare Community Center, 1964 Sol Legare Road, a half-mile past Backman's Seafood on the right behind the playground. Refreshments will be served before the 7 p.m. meeting.

 

The group will finalize plans for voter registration and absentee voter drives, support action for the campaigns of Anne Peterson-Hutto (State House seat 115) and Linda Ketner (U.S. House of Representatives, District 1) and discuss fundraising.

Kiawah Town Council has scheduled a special meeting today at 2 p.m. to discuss the bill introduced by Representative Henry Brown that would allow homes built on Captain Sam's Inlet to be eligible for federal flood insurance. The bill is H.R. 6389: To modify Captain Sam's Inlet Unit M08 of the John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources. There will also be an executive session to discuss legal matters.

It is essential all volunteers in the East Cooper are attend. The meeting will start at 7pm. Charleston Dems Gather for Obama's Nomination, August 28 (Convention Watch Party)
In one week, Senator Barack Obama will accept the nomination at the Democratic National Convention for the President of the United States. To celebrate this historic event, the Charleston County Democratic Party will host a gathering of fellow Democrats at West Wings, 1401 Sam Rittenberg Blvd from 8 pm to 11 pm. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected at the door to kick off our campaign to get Senator Obama and our local Democrats elected. Join us to turn our state blue. Ketner staff will also attend the watch party, so look for us to get your free bumper sticker!

Light snacks and desserts will be provided. Big Screen TV's to watch the speech. If you don't want to stay for the speech, at least come for the social time!

We encourage walkers! By car, take US17 to Shelmore Blvd. Enter I'On and follow Shelmore until it bends sharply to the left (where it becomes Saturday Rd). Keep going, Creek Club will be on your Right. Overflow parking is available back near the bend in the road if the small lot is full. Remember it's a school night, so we need to be quiet as we leave!
