Our military men and women serving in Iraq face a new danger. In addition to bullets and suicide bombers they may fall victim to faulty diplomacy.
A draft agreement between the U.S. and the Iraqi governments gives the latter the power to prosecute members of our military accused of crimes in the war zone. The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) not only places the fate of our servicemen and women in the hands of a foreign government, but also could lead to more concessions that place America at a distinct disadvantage in the country and the region. Washington and the Iraqi leadership have been negotiating this deal for months, and the senior leadership in Congress was briefed on this issue.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today added Linda Ketner to its “Red to Blue” program. Ketner earned a spot in the competitive program by establishing significant local support and skillfully showing South Carolina’s voters that she stands for change and will represent new priorities.
The Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country, and offers them financial, communications, and strategic support. The program introduces Democratic supporters to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for their campaigns.
“I am honored to be included in the Red to Blue program and really appreciate the support it represents,” says Ketner.
The use of this image, "Marshland Landscape," is a gift from the artist, Jonathan Green, to Linda Ketner for Congress in recognition of Linda’s many years of support for the environment, the arts, and the people of South Carolina.

Statement of Linda Ketner, Democratic Candidate, 1st Congressional District of SC
The failure of the House to pass the President’s bailout plan is a reflection of justifiable public outrage over a deal that would protect Wall Street without sufficient safeguards for the taxpayer, and no comprehensive plan for reform and accountability in our financial institutions. We absolutely cannot privatize all of Wall Street’s gains and socialize their losses.
The President and Congress have been asleep at the wheel, and they’ve been running stop signs for the past eight years. Both parties are to blame.
Americans want to see stability in the financial markets, but they are not willing to pay for it with a blank check that rewards Congress and Wall Street for irresponsible deficit spending, wholesale deregulation, and inadequate oversight. The people of this country are saying “Enough is enough.”
Ketner wants at least two on college campuses in the District.
MYRTLE BEACH/CHARLESTON, SC -- Democrat Linda Ketner challenged incumbent U.S. Rep. Henry Brown (R-SC) Wednesday to a series of three public debates in the District before Election Day. Ketner, a Charleston community leader and businesswoman, charged that "voters deserve these debates. Not in our lifetimes have so many Americans believed that the leadership of our country is taking us in the wrong direction - and with good reason. Representative Brown should be accountable to his constituents for his votes, many of which were against the best interest of citizens in the First District. Voters also deserve to hear how each of us would restore a failing economy, healthcare system, gas and food prices and foreign policy."

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - In observation of Patriots Day in Horry County, as we reflect on the anniversary of 9-11 and the heroism of the firefighters and other first responders—many of whom lost their own lives while helping rescue thousands on that day in 2001—Congressional Candidate Linda Ketner (SC-1) will spend Thurday, Sept. 11 with Michael Parrotta, President of the South Carolina Professional Firefighters Association.
In observation of Women’s Equality Day, which observes the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote, Congressional candidate Linda Ketner says “on this Women's Equality Day, let's remember that women in S.C. are number 50 in the number of women elected to public office in the United States. South Carolina women are the backbone of our state and of our country and they have been throughout American history. It's up to all of us - women and men - to make sure women represent this state, and use their gifts in service to our state and country."

Congressman Henry Brown has introduced a bill, H.R. 6389 to modify the Coastal Barrier Resource Act line on Kiawah, also known as Capt. Sam’s Inlet. This bill would remove Captain Sam’s Inlet from its current designation by the Federal Government as particularly fragile coastal habitat unfit for federal flood insurance. Removing this area from the Coastal Barrier System would not provide the ecological enhancement this legislation claims to provide. It would instead encourage development in an unstable erosion zone by providing developers with taxpayer subsidies in the form of federal flood insurance.
